if someone is in jail for life with NO chance of getting out....here is the ???? can we take his/ her DNA and line up organ donoes and take everything we can....they lost the right to live shouldn't something good come from it ???????????????

Sure ... if they volunteer their organs. Like was just said, there is an amendment that protects even the most hardened criminal.

Another problem is that the organs are generally not considered harvestable once the three cocktail "lethal injection" occurs which is the choice in most states.

It also raises a problem with the inmate being able to circumvent the legal death timeframe period by having a say as to what will be done with the organs ... not an option for keeping death row available to more inmates as they have their miserable lives extinguished one by one.

 

Just keep giving them booze so that they die of alcohol poisoning.

 

Right up until the moment of lethal injection, almost everyone in jail has a chance of getting out, if evidence that clears them should become available.

Also, they haven't "lost the right to live", but just the right to live freely (again, up to the point of lethal injection).

 

Bullet to the head doesn't harm the organs, also saves tax payers about 30k a year.

30k a year ? To keep someone on death row. More like 10 times that amount or even more.

I think we should first put all our efforts into permanently abolishing the barbaric practice of the death penalty, and we can start saving lives that way. Then encourage everyone we can to become an organ donor.

 

I agree with the second point that you made here ... as much as it is a sensitive subject, sign the organ donor portion on the back of your drivers license people.

As an aside how does the cost of keeping prisoners on death row rise to such heights of half a million a year? Where does the money go?

I just wonder how the victims of a killer feel about this topic and as much as "revenge" is more an emotional state than a remedy, I hope that I never have to find out how people that have lost loved one's feel ... and my heart goes out to them.

 

It's fucking ridiculous the money that is spent on housing an inmate annually ... including a great healthcare plan btw.

Obviously that won't go for the murderers and rapists .. but seriously. What's the point of sending someone to prison because he prefers to get stoned instead of get drunk? Even if you're dumb enough to insist that it should be a crime, at least get him to repay society by doing something useful, instead of spending money ON him in order to keep him locked away from the absolutely-nobody that he was endangering.

In the USA, life means life in most cases and in Canada at least it means 25 years maximum.

Plus some of these halfwits are too fucking stupid to know when they are being given choices such as community service/parole, etc and keep doing the same shit over and over ... hence the 3 strikes rule.
